SO after a 8 Month Hiatus, I’m Back! You might be surprised why!

There’s been a pretty long period from me with no posts. There’s a good reason for that. I’ve been out of the Big Land getting treatment for cancer and having a Little girl. That’s right, Congratulations you are having a child, and surprise you have cancer. Hell of the way to start off a new year.

First lets start with he amazing news, the Birth of Little Abigail, she came on one of my Chemo cycles where i was out of the Hospital and not feeling too crappy. June 3rd, 2019.

She’s been one of the main reasons the cancer treatments weren’t so bad. Dad’s little Shrimp is now 4 Months old and growing like a weed.

So the second part of why there hasn’t been much activity is a little less happy. In Late February I went to the hospital because I was having some stomach problems. The Doc on duty quickly realized that there was something more serious going on. Quickly I was flown to St John’s, NF and diagnosed with Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma.

WOW, wasn’t expecting that. Off to the cancer ward I went for an aggressive 7 rounds of Chemo.

The staff at ATC and 4 North A have been amazing, for the last 8 Months I’ve been in and out of the Health Science Center, almost every day.

I met some interesting people and some that were interesting for not good reasons. Ask about Friends Guy……..

Now, I’m done my treatments, my hair is growing back and I’m back in Labrador. But now we play the Waiting game. In about 5 weeks i go back to get my(Hopefully final) tests to determine if I’m in the clear.

I can make this post without thanking my family, Mitch and Niki for putting us up, the incredible support from everyone and most of all my lovely wife. It’s been overwhelming at times.

While all this was going on, we made a bit of an upgrade, we traded The Widow in for a New Jeep Gladiator. Be expecting some articles on that in the near future. But for now here’s what she looks like.

Jeep - Its a Way of life (No really, it's a thing) 8

When i bought my first Jeep (A rusted out ol XJ) i never thought that i be starting a journey do this rabbit hole. I’d long been part of the Offroad community in the Lab West area, driving, Old Chevs and even a geo Metro…. Fun times.

It Wasn’t long before i had 3 XJs in the Yard in various states of scrap/rebuild.

Wasn’t too long before i got myself “The Widow” a 2010 JK, Lifted, 35s man she was built. On the way home that summer i noticed an odd phenomenon. Other Jeep Owners, waved to me, middle of nowhere, in 4 different provinces. A quick yahoo search (It was a while ago) told me that this is How Jeeple greeted each other. I hadn’t realized that i was even a Jeeple.

That summer a posted on a Facebook group that we were looking for other Jeep owners to do trail runs with.

Wasn’t long before the “Labrador Jeep Owners” formed. That grew even bigger when we aligned ourselves with he NL Jeep Owners based on the Island portion of the Province.

Over the years the life has introduced to places and life long friend ships that now span the country.

Every summer while on vacation i check the local clubs for Meetups, open runs and events. You would be surprised how quickly people start to introduce themselves when you show up in a rig from another province.

So i encourage you to get out there and meet other Jeeple. A Jeep comes with an unwritten rule book about Jeep Waves, helping your fellow enthusiasts out, sharing the knowledge of what you did to fix death wobble and what tires you find best.  Here are some groups that you can look up and meet In NL and Atlantic Canada. I’d start with the Pirate offroad they are the biggest group right now, Chapters are all over.

Another Hobby to add to my Jeeping! Drone Flying!

I always thought it was pretty cool when you see youtube videos with awesome drone shots. I thought it would be cool to do Jeep videos from the air. And when a Friend offered to sell my old buddies DJI Inspire one I freaked out!

Tims Rig

Tims Rig
Tim was a Jeeper too, but he spent a bunch of time playing with and tweaking this unit for distance. (Another rule, we’re not allowed to do that anymore.) I was only glad to bring the ol girl back to life.

After a few weeks of tinkering i got it flying, I learned the rules (Oh SO MANY RULES) and learned to fly the contraption. All summer i dragged this thing all over the place and got some really nice shots! Check out the Videos below the Gallery. I’m getting good with the thing now.

Wow this summer has been a scorcher in the Lab West area! We’ve been keeping ourselves really busy, camping pretty much every weekend since our late start in June.
This picture was taken in the first week of June.

Wasn’t long before the Sumner fun started. And the Heat, oh my the heat!

It was the 4th of June before the snow melted enough to get down to our camper.

Good Ol Grande Hermine lake was still frozen. So I tried my hand at Ice Breaking, in my canoe…. Max found out it was a cold day for a swim.

We got a Visit from some of the other Labrador Jeepers!

We been spending lots of R n R time right in front of the Fire. This view is why I love going to our camper.

We went to visit some friends at a neighboring camp ground, and he insisted we take a ride in his boat. He has a scaled down version of a Long liner. Comfortable ride. For sure. Bear especially likes hiding away in the cabin.

Going to have to go back some evening and try for some fish.

We’ve been out and done a little geocaching, not as much as we would have liked, but there’s still time left yet.

Of course spending time with our furry friends is always a great way to relax.

One of the things i love about our camp site it the sense of community. Here we are doing a little fundraising. Got burned to a crisp that day. Forgot to Slip Slap Slop!
